Ingredients
Method
- Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) when ready to bake.
- In a saucepan, melt butter and brown sugar until smooth. Pour into the baking dish and spread evenly.
- Arrange bread slices in the pan in a single, snug layer.
- In a bowl, whisk eggs, cream, milk, sugar, vanilla, cinnamon, and salt.
- Pour custard over the bread, pressing lightly to help it soak.
- Cover and refrigerate at least 4 hours or overnight.
- Uncover and bake 35–40 minutes, until puffed and set in the center.
- Cool 5 minutes before serving, spooning caramel from the bottom over each slice.
Notes
Use thick, day-old bread for the best texture.
For extra caramelized flavor, sprinkle a little sugar on top and broil briefly.
Store leftovers covered in the fridge up to 3 days; reheat in the oven to keep edges crisp.
