Servings: 12 brownies

Ingredients

  • ½ cup 115g unsalted butter, melted
  • ¾ cup granulated sugar
  • ¼ cup brown sugar
  • ½ cup plain yogurt or buttermilk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup chocolate chips optional but recommended

Method

  1. Preheat the Oven
  2. Preheat your oven to 350°F (180°C). Line an 8×8 baking pan with parchment paper.
  3. Mix the Butter & Sugars
  4. In a large bowl, whisk the melted butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until glossy and smooth.
  5. Add Yogurt & Vanilla
  6. Stir in the yogurt (or buttermilk) and vanilla extract until fully combined and creamy.
  7. Combine Dry Ingredients
  8. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt.
  9. Mix the Batter
  10. Add the dry mixture into the wet mixture. Gently fold until just combined—do not overmix.
  11. Add Chocolate Chips
  12. Fold in the chocolate chips for extra fudginess.
  13. Bake
  14. Spread the batter evenly into the prepared baking pan.
  15. Bake for 22–26 minutes, or until the top is set but the center is still slightly soft.
  16. Cool & Slice
  17. Let the brownies cool completely in the pan. Lift out using parchment and slice into 12 squares.

Notes

For extra fudgy brownies, bake on the shorter time.
For slightly cakier brownies, add 2 more tablespoons of flour.
Let brownies cool fully before slicing for clean edges.
Add-ins: walnuts, pecans, crushed Oreos, caramel swirls, or extra chocolate chips.
Decorate for Halloween brownies with candy eyes, orange icing, or spiderweb chocolate.
Store at room temperature for 3–4 days or freeze up to 2 months.
